The HAMA MAXI size (10 mm) has been developed for younger children, who require a bigger size bead for their small fingers. Motor skills have not yet been developed for the MIDI size, (also offered by Educational Toys Planet) meaning that MAXI is an obvious system for the younger children in playgroups, nurseries and preschool classes. The majority of items offered in the MAXI series have translucent pegboards for placing patterns underneath. The target group for our MAXI series is normally children from 3-5 years. To make this series simpler, we do not offer as many colors as in our MIDI series, and we offer the beads in color assortments only (no single color packs are so far available).
Hama beads is an excellent and creative hobby for both young and old alike. The Hama Beads are positioned on the pegboards to form a picture or a complete exiting design. When complete, the design is ironed to fix it and removed from the pegboard, which may be used over and over again for more art projects. There is an amazing array of Hama Beads colors: glitter, neon, brights, pastels, glow in the dark and individual colors.
This is how the ironing system works:
Place the beads one by one on a pegboard to create a design.
Then place Hama ironing paper on top of the beads before
ironing them. Hama ironing paper is treated with silicone to
stop the beads from melting onto the iron.
Iron the beads until they’ve fused together. Always remember
to ask an adult to iron the beads for you, because the iron is
very hot. Apply the iron for just a few seconds using smooth
movements. Make sure the iron doesn’t touch the pegboard.
Leave your bead design to cool for a short time, then carefully
remove it from the pegboard.
