My 4 year old took to this instantly. It's given us a great opportunity to play together. He is learning that he can control whether the gears turn or not depending on how he places them on the board. So, it provides instant feedback and reward for properly aligning the pieces. I tell him, 'You're a great engineer!' which he repeats with tremendous glee. Highly recommended toy.

This is my favorite of all the items I purchased. I originally bought this for a 3 y.o., but he's not interested, however the 5 y.o. can't get enough of it. Watching him putting these gears together is amazing. My husband LOVES this too! We are going to get the extras that can go with it.
